"Okay, try speeding up a little."
It was about midafternoon now, as Delilah headed down the road towards Bellossomy Town, riding on the back of Gilda, her mother's Girafarig. They had been riding since the early morning, and it had been a fairly long trip. They had been shifting back and forth between a trot and a moderate canter as Delilah's eagerness to get to the pokemon lab and her desire not to fall off combated each other. Sure, Gilda would catch her the remote second she begun to fall, but that didn't really make the feeling that she was going to fall any better.
"Hold on." The Girafarig responded, as she once again quickened her pace. Delilah leaned forward to get a better grip on the Girafarig's neck. The rough beat of Gilda's hooves hitting the ground and her body rocking back and forth with her movement was a bit nauseating. After a moment the Girafarig glanced back at her. "Are you okay? Want me to slow down again?" The pokemon asked, her eyes round with concern.
Delilah shook her head, squinting a bit as she focused on staying on Gilda's back. "No, keep going. I'll be fine. We're almost there." She assured her. After struggling to get this far, she was beginning to regret not practicing her riding so much before heading on this long trip. Riding a pokemon didn't sound that hard, but in practice it turned out there was a lot more to it than just sitting on the back of a pokemon and letting them carry you around.
After about ten more minutes, Gilda began to slow down again, and Delilah looked up as the soft aroma of flowers filled her senses. "We're here!" She exclaimed out loud as she sat up straight again. Her immediate instinct was to head straight for the lab. Unfortunately though, she first had to head to the pokemon center so she could send Gilda back to her mom.
The Girafarig slowed to a stop in front of the glass front of the Bellossomy Town Pokemon center, allowing Delilah to slide off. Somewhat relieved to have her feet back on the ground again, she walked ahead of Gilda and faced the Girafarig with a wistful smile. "I guess this is good bye." She said a little sadly as ran her hand down Gilda's muzzle.
Gilda pushed her head past Delilah's hand, and nuzzled the side of her face instead. "Have a safe journey." She might have gone on a bit longer, but she knew Renée would likely fuss over her enough and she was sure Delilah wanted to get to the lab as soon as possible.
Delilah threw her arms completely around the Girafarig, hugging the pokemon tightly. She had grown up with Gilda, and a number of her mother's pokemon. She was going to miss them all a lot, and she wished she could take them with her, but that was impossible. With their goodbyes said, Delilah pulled the Girafarig's poke ball from her bag and returned her to it.
She scanned the front foyer, which was moderately busy with a handful of trainers and nurses going about their business. She then spotted the transfer machine, and made a bee line to it. Choosing a free station, she sat down infront of the video phone, and made a call to the center in Petal City, where her mother had said she'd be waiting to receive Gilda once Delilah had arrived in Bellossomy.
The phone rang a couple times, before the screen flashed on and her mother's face appeared. "There you are dear! I was starting to get worried that something happened! Did you make it alright? How's Gilda, I hope you didn't push her too hard, she's getting up there you know!" Renée chidded, wagging her finger at Delilah.
Delilah smiled a bit, stifling a soft chuckle. Her push Gilda? She could barely push herself to allow the pokemon to go any faster than a trot! "We're both fine Mom, we got here safe and sound without major incident. I'm going to send Gilda over to you now." Delilah said as she spun the revolving chair to face the adjacent transfer machine. She placed Gilda's poké ball on the platform, and pressed a few buttons.
With a flash of light, the ball was gone, and on the screen, Delilah's mother held up Gilda's poke ball which was now at her location. "All done! Good job dear, now you go hurry along to the pokemon lab okay? Don't forge..." Renée began listing off various reminders, and Delilah just smiled and nodded through it all. It was kind of hard to 'hurry along' while her Mom rambled on, but she didn't interrupt her and after a few moments they said their goodbyes and Delilah was once again off.
After a bit of walking around town, Delilah soon found herself at the doors to the pokemon lab. Well, this was it. She'd go in, and when she came out, she would have her starter pokemon and she'd get to begin her journey at last. For a moment, she hesitated as nerves began to overwhelm her. She was excited yes, but also kind of nervous about taking this one crucial step to starting her journey. Swallowing the anxiety back, she raised her hand and knocked on the door, before waiting for whomever would answer.
