POKEMON OBEDIENCE 101
What? Your new Pokemon is driving you up a wall? Pah! You should have seen that one coming. Not all Pokemon will become obedient dolls the moment you add them to your party. This isn't a children's game. Wait... Never mind. A Pokemon's desire to serve does not just come from the installation of loyalty as soon as that Pokeball snaps shut. Yes, installation. A Pokeball turns a Pokemon into data so that they can store it in such a small space. Regardless, a Pokemon will not become the perfect pet right afterwards. You must meet requirements, and this can be different for each group. A little life saving doesn't hurt, either.
TRAINERS
Obedience is often determined by the number of badges a trainer has. The more badges, the more obedient the Pokemon. Typically, one badge will allow a Pokemon up to level twenty obedient. The next badge is level thirty, the next is level forty, and so on. Basically, the equation will be 20+10B in which B equals the number of badges as trainer has. With traded Pokemon, they are more likely to disobey orders and goof off during battle while your normal Pokemon might just use a completely different move.
COORDINATORS
Obedience is a big deal with coordinators. If your Pokemon does not obey, then it reflects poorly on yourself as a trainer and a coordinator. Obedience can be obtained through training, earning multiple badges, and showing your Pokemon affection. Earn your Pokemon's trust through PokeBlocks, Poffins, or PokePuffs, by grooming them, or just by working on your skills. You should be working on your performance, anyway.
BREEDERS
Obedience is key when it comes time to mating Pokemon or taking eggs from them. If they do not have even an ounce of respect for you, then they will not breed together, and they definitely will not let you anywhere near your eggs. Like with coordination, doting on your Pokemon will help build their respect towards you.
PROFESSORS & ASSISTANTS
The Professors should have little trouble getting their Pokemon to obey them if they have them around long enough. They know enough about Pokemon to know what the average one likes, though it can be very frustrating when a not-so-average Pokemon falls into their hands. Professors and their assistants have to put forth the effort not to frighten the Pokemon. Basically, the longer the Pokemon has been with them, the more respect and obedience it will have.
GYM LEADERS & ELITE FOUR
A gym leader or Elite should already have a team that will obey their every order because they have already gone through the entire Pokemon League with them. However, for those new Pokemon that stumble into their non-static team, they will have to pull the same stunt as everyone else without another way to obtain obedience: time, patience, and lots of treats. Keep them with you wherever you go, show them that you are someone they can serve--I mean live with. It all depends on the Pokemon and how stubborn the both of you are.
TEAM ROCKET & THE BLACK ORDER
This may come off as cruel, but, for organized crime, not everything can be rainbows and Butterfree. The Pokemon grunts are given are ones that have been disciplined. Their 'obedience' is usually out of fear. Some are corrupted, finding malicious glee in whatever orders they are given, especially if it harms another. To the Pokemon that they obtain outside of their headquarters, obedience might need to be enforced through a variety of ways that will not be explained here. Sometimes, mere rank alone and the air of superiority you give off is enough to make a Pokemon obey your orders. When in doubt, hand your Pokemon over to the scientists for a week. They'll fix up that rebellious attitude.
GIJINKA & POKEMORPHS
The difference between everyone else and a Gijinka/Pokemorph is that the Pokemon do not have that slight bit of coding installed into them that tells them to obey. The hybrids have to earn respect and obedience in any way possible, and they are sometimes forced to chase after a new companion. Sometimes, their new companion rules over them! One might be able to compare how they obtain a Pokemon's trust to that of a breeder or the non-static team of gym leaders and the Elite Four.
